A Clinic Built Around One Thing: Expert Cardiac Device Care

About London Pacemaker Centre: Focused, Consultant-Led, Personal

A Clinic Dedicated Entirely to Pacemakers and Cardiac Devices

Most cardiology services do a little of everything. London Pacemaker Centre does one thing, and does it completely. We are a consultant-led clinic focused exclusively on the assessment, implantation, optimisation and long-term care of pacemakers, implantable defibrillators and related cardiac devices. That focus is deliberate, and it is what allows us to offer a depth of expertise and a standard of follow-up that a general clinic simply cannot.

Why a Specialist Centre Exists

Cardiac rhythm management has become more complex, not less. Devices are more sophisticated, the options are wider, and getting the detail right matters more than ever. Yet many patients tell us the same thing: their device was implanted well, then they were left without anyone to turn to for specialist follow-up, clear explanations or fine-tuning.

London Pacemaker Centre was created to close that gap. We bring together experienced consultant cardiologists who have spent their careers within leading NHS and private cardiac centres, supported by specialist cardiac physiologists and a dedicated private patient coordinator. The result is a service that is comprehensive enough to handle the most complex device work, and personal enough that you always know who is looking after you.

Our Approach to Care

Everything we do begins and ends with communication. A diagnosis explained clearly, an honest answer to a difficult question, a plan you actually understand: these are not extras, they are the foundation of good cardiac care. We practise shared decision making, which means we make recommendations and then walk you through them, so the decision that gets made is the right one for you.

We aim to give every patient three things: time to ask questions, expert and honest advice, and a clear plan for what happens next. For patients who already have a device, we add a fourth: the reassurance that it is doing exactly what it was put there to do.

Tests and Treatments We Offer

We provide the full range of care for cardiac rhythm devices, from first assessment through to the most complex procedures and long-term follow-up. Our service includes:

Assessment and diagnostics. Specialist assessment of blackouts, dizziness, palpitations and slow heart rhythms, including ECG, heart rhythm monitoring and implantable loop recorders to reach a confident diagnosis. See whether you might need a pacemaker, and our heart rhythm monitoring service.

Pacemakers. Assessment, implantation, generator change and revision, including leadless pacemakers and conduction system pacing.

Implantable defibrillators (ICDs). Assessment, implantation, subcutaneous (S-ICD) devices and revision, for patients at risk of dangerous fast heart rhythms.

Cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT). Assessment and implantation of CRT-P and CRT-D devices for suitable patients with heart failure, plus revision and upgrades.

Device checks and optimisation. Detailed checks, expert programming, remote monitoring and long-term follow-up, with optimisation tailored to your activity and lifestyle. See our pacemaker checks and optimisation service.

Lead extraction. Specialist removal of device leads, including laser techniques, for infected or damaged leads.

Second opinions. Independent, expert review of a recommendation or an existing device.

Second Opinions

Decisions about cardiac devices are significant, and it is entirely reasonable to want certainty. Whether you have been advised that you need a device and want an independent view before deciding, or you already have one and want to know it is the right device, set up well and doing its job, we are glad to provide a specialist second opinion.

Just as importantly, we give honest answers. If our view is that you do not need a procedure, or that your current device is working exactly as it should, we will tell you plainly. Sometimes the most valuable opinion is the one that confirms a device is not necessary and points you toward the right care instead. A second opinion is only worth having if it is genuinely independent. To arrange one, see our second opinion page or contact us directly.

A regular member of faculty at national and international meetings. He has been a specialist adviser to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) on the use of laser sheaths in pacing lead extraction.

He has extensive experience in the assessment and management of patients requiring- or with- pacemakers of all types, Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (ICDs), and Cardiac Resynchronisation Therapy (CRT). He is also experienced in the developing technique of Conduction System Pacing (CSP).

He has a keen interest in sports cardiology- both professionally and as an athlete himself- including screening for the risks associated with participation in endurance sport, particularly in older athletes.

Dr David Jones

Consultant Cardiologist

Dr David Gareth Jones is a consultant cardiologist based in London.

He read medicine at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School (now part of Imperial College London), graduating in 2000 after taking first-class honours in cardiovascular medicine. He trained in cardiology, electrophysiology and cardiac devices in London and Auckland, New Zealand, and was awarded his MD in 2013 for research into ablation therapy for patients with atrial fibrillation and heart failure.

He is a consultant at Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals and the cath lab director at Harefield, where he also leads simulator-based emergency training to improve patient safety.

He has extensive experience in the treatment of heart rhythm disorders, including catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia, pacemaker and defibrillator implantation, and Cardiac Resynchronisation Therapy (CRT). He has a particular interest in arrhythmias in advanced heart failure and in patients who have had a heart or lung transplant.

His interest in rhythm extends beyond medicine. A keen violinist, he has played with the European Doctors Orchestra.

Dr Rebecca Lane

Consultant Cardiologist

Dr Rebecca Lane graduated from St George’s Hospital, London. She completed her specialist Cardiology training in Cardiology in the London Deanery and was awarded her MD in 2008 for research in cardiac resynchronisation therapy for patients with heart failure.

She has been a consultant cardiologist at Harefield Hospital since 2008 where she is the clinical lead for Cardiology and has led the pacing and device service for the past 10 years. She performs all forms of device therapy including permanent pacemakers, leadless pacemakers, cardiac resynchronisation therapy, transvenous and subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillators.

She is also a heart failure specialist caring for patients at every stage of their disease from diagnosis through to advanced heart failure and end of life care. She will provide you with a comprehensive and personalised approach that encompasses all aspects of heart failure and pacing therapies.
